I have a contact at a local gun range that does reloading and I plan on showing him my bullet depth on a X-treme. The same issue with reloading mixed brass-some do, some don't but in the process I learned about the existence of and problem with "stepped" brass-a good thing to know. But I wanted to hear the discussion and why they chose which method. I realized either method is acceptable and there would be folks on each side. I think my first post in the forum was whether folks resized and decapped prior to tumbling or tumbled first. I will join the Austin Rifle Club in the Spring and they have a class on reloading which I plan on taking. I am glad I asked the question because no where in my reading was this issue raised. Donn I never heard of stepped brass with 9mm and thus was not aware of the problem. The responses were generally what I assumed except like Lt. 38 but wanted to know what experienced reloaders did or didn't do with shooting mixed brass. As I started the thread, I am comfortable with using mixed brass with the low pressure. I have studied and made my initial purchases of reloading press and eq., powder, primers and bullets-lot to learn about bullet selection-lead v coated v jacketed and resulting powders and amount to use. I have been following this forum and S&W Reloading forum, various online discussions and a lot of Youtube videos. I have bought and carefully studied Lyman, Speer and Lee Reloading Guides as well as the ABCs of Reloading. But despite my questions that may be very basic I did some low volume, highly accurate reloading 25-30 years ago for 25-06, and 45LC. I think I have the information I was seeking.ĩx45 I appreciate your advice about seeking help from an experienced reloader. If they made stepped brass in the past it doesn't look like they do so now.
